Today I’d like to focus in on one passage of Luke chapter 8. Jesus has been non-stop teaching, healing, bringing people back from death, and more. He is tired.
He tells his disciples that they need a break. The only place he can actually get away from the crowds is in the lake. So off they go.
“One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out.”
Luke 8:22 NIV
Jesus falls asleep. Finally some peace and quiet. But not for long.
“As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.”
Luke 8:23-24 NIV
Jesus is upset with them.
““Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.””
Luke 8:25 NIV
Now think about why he’s unhappy with them.
He has literally brought the dead back to life in front of them. He has cast out demons. He works miracles constantly.
Yet they were amazed that he could calm the storm. Why?
In this instance he goes from prophet & teacher to GOD. Creator God who formed the earth and set the stars in the sky. The one who spoke the world into existence and rules over all creation.
That’s pretty amazing and the realization for them must have been startling.
Remember that these disciples all died for Christ. They were immovable in their faith.
Because they encountered God.
I pray you will have your own encounter with God himself this Christmas season.
Much love ❤️
