Have you ever been thanked for just doing your job? Feels great, doesn’t it?
In today’s world, everyone is so busy with their own agendas, that it’s become a selfish place. Entitlement and self-righteousness seems to rule.
The way to make your world a little gentler is to simply thank people for doing what they do, no matter what it may be.
Our state 4-H & FFA Livestock Shown has been happening for 8 solid days. We had over 2,000 exhibitors, plus their families and animals. Those facilities workers have cleaned bathrooms, emptied garbage cans, worked concession stands, sold shavings, and most anything else that needed to be done.
There was a worker at the end of our pig aisle with two black garbage bags emptying a makeshift garbage can we had created. He had a smile on his face as he picked up our garbage and filled two bags.
I went to him and thanked him. He smiled and said, “Just doing my job.”
He was just doing his job, but he could have been mad that he was having to pick up garbage. But he wasn’t. He was performing his job with a smile and a good attitude.
I think we need to step outside of ourselves and recognize other people who may need some encouragement and recognition for “just doing their job”.
We thanked the restaurant workers for making us lunch. Is it their job? Of course. But shouldn’t we spread a little good cheer by recognizing their work and saying thank you?
Always strive to make the world a little happier and safer place. You can start by simply saying Thank You.
“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:12 NIV
