Pigs are incredibly intelligent animals. My 3 kiddos walk their 4-H project pigs almost every day.
At the shows, there is a competition to see who has done their “homework”. The showman who can drive their pig and maintain total control, while watching the judge and being respectful of others in the ring, wins the class.
Landry began with winning the 9-11 year-old Junior division.
That’s her driving her barrow, Aspen.
Then Owen followed by winning the Intermediate Division, which is 12-14 year-olds.
This is Owen driving Spruce, a barrow.
Then Paycen won the Senior Division of 15 & up.
This is Paycen showing his Hampshire gilt.
So at our local show, there is a belt buckle prize for overall showman. That put all 3 of my children in the championship drive. It was so much fun!!
The announcer told the judge what had happened and he said “I guess I must just like the way that family shows.”
Paycen won overall Showmanship, but at the awards ceremony, he presented his belt buckle to his baby sister.
As my husband says, “We aren’t doing this to raise pigs, we do this to raise kids.”
Proud day in our household.
